Terms of service
These describe how the platform behaves today. They are accurate about the system but have not been reviewed as a contract. Get that done before you take real money.
What OKOA Food is
A marketplace. Supermarkets list stock that is approaching its best-before date; buyers reserve it; the supermarket hands it over. OKOA Food operates the platform and takes a commission. The supermarket, not OKOA, sells you the food and is responsible for its condition.
The app is in closed testing
Until we say otherwise, orders placed through the app are test orders. No money is taken and nothing here creates an obligation to supply. We may reset test data without notice.
Prices
- The discount is set by the supermarket as a schedule of days and percentages. It is applied automatically and recalculated every day.
- The price you pay is worked out again at checkout. If a listing has changed since you looked, the order is refused rather than charged at the old price.
- Prices include a buyer service fee, shown separately at checkout. Delivery, where you choose it, is charged on top.
Reserving and collecting
- A basket holds stock for 15 minutes. If you do not pay in that time the stock goes back on sale.
- A paid order gives you a code, valid for 48 hours — 24 for frozen goods. Show it at the till.
- If you do not collect within the window the order lapses. Contact us and we will arrange a refund.
Dates and condition
Everything listed is within its date at the time of listing. A best-before date is about quality; food may be perfectly good after it. A use-by date is a safety limit and nothing is ever listed or sold past it. Check what you are buying, as you would in any shop, and tell the supermarket straight away if something is not as described.
Donations to institutions
- Only institutions we have verified may claim donated stock.
- The food is given free by the supermarket. The institution pays a handling fee to OKOA and nothing to the supermarket.
- Donated stock is for the institution's own use. Reselling it is not permitted and ends the account.
For supermarkets
- You are responsible for the accuracy of what you list — especially the date, the quantity and the storage type.
- Commission is charged on completed handovers only, at the rate in your agreement, and is recorded against each order.
- Payouts are made on the schedule in your agreement, to the account you have given us.
Accounts
Keep your phone and your codes to yourself; anyone holding them can collect your order. We may suspend an account that is used to defraud a supermarket, resell donated food, or abuse other users.
Changes
We will post any change here and, where it matters, tell you in the app. Continuing to use OKOA Food after a change means you accept it.
