Privacy notice
This describes what the OKOA Food app and this site actually collect today. It is written from the system as built, not from a template, but it has not been reviewed against Rwanda's Law N° 058/2021 on the protection of personal data. Do that before launch.
Who we are
OKOA Food, Kigali, Rwanda. Questions about anything here go to support@okoafood.rw.
What we collect
- Your name and phone number, because an account is created against a phone number and a supermarket needs a name to hand an order to.
- An email address, if you give one. It is optional for buyers and required for administrators.
- Your orders — what you reserved, what you paid, which shop, and when you collected.
- Your approximate location, if you allow it, and only to sort shops by distance. We do not keep a history of where you have been.
- A delivery address, on orders you ask to have delivered.
- Organisation documents, where an institution uploads them for verification.
- Technical records — the IP address a request came from, and the outcome of the SMS messages we send you.
What we do not do
- We do not store your card number or Mobile Money PIN. Payment is handled by the payment provider; we keep only their reference and whether it succeeded.
- We do not store your verification code. Only a one-way hash of it exists, and only until it is used or expires.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else sees it
- The supermarket you ordered from sees your name, the order and, for a delivery, the address.
- Our SMS and payment providers see what they need to deliver a message or take a payment.
- Nobody else, unless we are required to disclose something by law.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records are kept as long as accounting rules require. Verification codes expire within minutes. Verification documents are deleted once an institution's review is complete and the retention period has passed. If you close your account we remove what we are not obliged to keep.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to support@okoafood.rw and we will respond within 30 days.
Cookies
This site sets a session cookie and a cross-site request forgery token, both of which are needed for the contact form to work. There is no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking, which is why there is no cookie banner.
